This game does have some glaring issues though. This is what Labyrinth of Lies should have been – and would have been, if the plot and characters hadn’t ended up becoming simple caricatures of an amateur crime novel. (Fans who have played this game will know what I mean since one side-plot in this game is a little silly). I was honestly impressed with this game for dealing with such heavy material in a highly realistic way – at least for the most part. Likewise, it raises issues such as the provenance of items, and whether countries have the right to reclaim items previously excavated – or even stolen – from them, and the legitimacy of theft in cases such as these. It takes a real look at the artefact smuggling trade, and the dangerous realities of being involved in it more than one character in this game is hurt because of their involvement in the trade. This game definitely deals with some serious subject matter. This mystery draws a lot of resemblances to Labyrinth of Lies: both begin with artefacts going mysteriously missing – supposedly by a common thief – until it is revealed that something much more sinister is going on. This raises questions about whether a common thief is about, or something more sinister is amiss. It’s up to Nancy to find the missing artefact which she soon learns is only one of numerous foreign artefacts that have been stolen from museums around the country. Soon after Nancy arrives though, one of the key exhibitions is stolen, with a sheet of paper of a scarlet hand left in its place. to be the deputy curator at the Beech Hill Museum to help open a new exhibition on the Maya which will star a giant monolith excavated from Mexico. In this adventure, Nancy travels to Washington D.C.
